5 million people were downloading Sharechat every hour.

Sharechat has confirmed that 5 lakh people downloaded it every hour throughout the day on 30 June, after which its total number reached 15 million in just one day.

After the government banned 59 Chinese apps, there has been a big growth in Sharechat, India’s largest social media platform. A Sharechat spokesperson has confirmed in a media statement that 5 lakh people downloaded it every hour throughout the day on June 30, after which its total number reached 1.5 crore in just one day. Sharechat said that at present it has 6 crore active monthly users and it is available in 13 languages.

In a previous interview with News18, ShareChat co-founder and COO Farid Ahsan stated that the platform had been witnessing steady growth since the onset of the Kovid-19 epidemic. Apart from this, Sharechat’s director of public policy Burgess Malu also told News18 that it is expected that Sharechat can see a steady increase after the ban of Chinese apps.

How does Sharechat work?ShareChat is available on both Android and iOS platforms. Users can get the experience by downloading it like Facebook and Twitter. It has been specially designed keeping in mind the Indians. Like other popular social media apps, users can post status, photos in the app. Also, they can also follow people.

Apart from Sharechat, Roposo, India’s second largest homegrown social media platform, has also seen similar growth since yesterday. Speaking to News18, Roposo co-founder and CEO, Mayank Bhangadia said that the platform was downloaded more than 10 million times in just yesterday’s day. Roposo, owned by InMobi-backed Glance, claims to have over 125 million users engagements every day.

Bhangadia told News18 that after the ban on Chinese apps, he hopes to have many original content creators on his platform, who were earlier presenting their work on platforms like TicTalk. He also said that such creators also bring their followers with them.
