Twitter wrote in a blog post, ‘A year later, on the occasion of the 2020 US election, we took this work forward to maintain honesty in public conversation.’ The microblogging platform is now resuming the process and has asked the public to react to the draft of its new verification policy from 24 November to 8 December 2020.

The blog states that future improvements will be made on the basis of this policy as to what verification means, who is eligible for verification and why certain accounts may lose verification to ensure a ‘more equitable process’. Twitter said , ‘We are planning to resume verification in early 2021 with a new public application process. According to the proposed policy, the ‘Blue Verified Badge’ on Twitter tells people that it is an authentic account of public interest.

Twitter said that to get blue tick, it is necessary to have an account ‘remarkable and active’. Under this, Twitter has identified 6 types of accounts, including 1) government, 2) companies, brands and non-profit organizations, 3) news, 4) entertainment, 5) sports, 6) social workers, organizers and other influential Person involved.
