DOJ appeals special master decision

Documents Seized by the FBI from Mar-a-Lago

The Justice Department said Thursday it is appealing a federal judge’s decision to authorize a special master to review documents seized from Mar-a-Lago, the home of former President Donald Trump.

The move came three days after Judge Eileen Cannon upheld Trump’s request for an outside watchdog to identify personal items and records through confiscated material that are protected by attorney-client privilege or executive privilege.

The DOJ opposed that request, saying it had already completed a privilege review of the documents, and that a special master could harm the government’s national security interests.

The appeal was filed in the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit, which has appellate jurisdiction over cases in the district courts in Florida.
