JD Sports appoints Regis Schultz as new head

UK sportswear retailer JD Sports continues its boardroom overhaul with the appointment of Regis Schultz as its new chief executive.

The French retail giant will join the Al-Futaim Group, where he has been chairman of retail since 2019. The Dubai-based group operates stores such as Ikea, Marks & Spencer and Zara in the Middle East, Asia and North Africa.

Prior to his time at the Al-Futaim Group, Schultz was the chief executive of the French grocery chain Monoprix.

The French executive has a long history of leading various retail divisions, having also served as chief operating officer of British DIY chain B&Q, and at furniture and electrical goods retailers.

His appointment comes a month after Andy Higginson replaced Peter Cowgill as trainer and chairman of the streetwear retailer after he negotiated with the UK competition regulator to retroactively block JD’s acquisition of smaller rival Futsilm in 2019. Judgment abandoned.

JD Sports said on Monday it was selling Futsilm for a significant loss, acknowledging the £37.5mn from German investment group Aurelius compared to the £90.1mn that JD spent buying it off the stock market in 2019. did.
