Stock Market Update Today: Indian benchmark indices closed slightly higher today amid volatility. The S&P BSE Sensex ended 300 points or 0.51 per cent higher at 59,141. On the other hand, the NSE Nifty closed at 17,622 with a gain of 91 points or 0.52 per cent. Frontline led by Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Finance, SBI Life, Adani Ports, HUL, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India, UPL, Eicher Motors, HDFC, Divis Labs, SBI, ITC, Maruti Suzuki, Axis Bank and Infosys in trading today Gainers were on the index. They beat the losers. All these stocks moved between 1 per cent and 3 per cent.
On the downside, Tata Steel, NTPC, ICICI Bank, Power Grid, Kotak Bank, Asian Paints and L&T were the top laggards, falling up to 2.4 per cent. The broader indices underperformed today with BSE Midcap and Smallcap indices falling 0.16 per cent each. Sectorally, the Nifty Metal and Realty indices ended in the red, falling in the range of 0.5 per cent to 0.9 per cent. In contrast, Nifty PSU Bank index rose 2 per cent and Nifty FMCG and Auto index rose 1 per cent each.
On Monday, gains in major European markets continued. Germany’s DAX fell 0.3 per cent, France’s CAC 40 0.85 per cent and Italy’s FTSE MIB also fell around 0.7 per cent in morning trade. Spain’s IBEX 35 was trading with a decline of 0.2 percent. Britain’s FTSE 100 is closed on Monday for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. Shares in Asia-Pacific also fell over 1 per cent on Monday and US futures were slightly lower.
