Koffee With Karan 7 Aamir Khan: Aamir appeared in the director-hosted show ‘Koffee with Karan 7’ along with his ‘Lal Singh Chaddha’ co-star Kareena Kapoor. Where filmmaker Karan Johar claimed that Aamir Khan is responsible for losing the likes of South cinema in Hindi cinema. KJo asked Aamir why Hindi movies are not doing well and South films like ‘RRR’, ‘Pushpa’ and others are earning big at the box office.
During a candid chat with Aamir, Karan said, “So much success has been achieved that some films from the South industry have offered us ‘Baahubali’, then ‘RRR’, ‘KGF’ and ‘Pushpa’ and some of our films. Movies that are not working. Has there been any change in our films recently, like ‘KGF’ has a raga or ‘Pushpa’ actually used to be Hindi cinema. We really let it go and you are responsible for it.”
Continuing his point, the filmmaker said, “In the year 2001, you came up with two films ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ and ‘Lagaan’, both of which had new sensibilities, both had a new syntax in cinema, then after that you came together with each other. You came together in 2006 film ‘Rang De Basanti’, right after you made ‘Taare Zameen Par’, as a result of which you started creating a definite audience and filmmaker.”
Aamir refuted all the claims and said, “No, you are wrong. They were all heart movies. Those films had emotions. They reach out to the common man. It is something that you will get attached to emotionally.’ ‘Rang De Basanti’ is a very emotional film. It touches people at the grassroots level.”
The superstar further added, “I am not saying make action films or crude films. Make good films with good stories but choose subjects that are relevant to most of the people. Every filmmaker has the freedom to make what he wants. They want to. But when you’re picking something that a large part of India isn’t really interested in… there are niche people who are interested, which most of us don’t know. That’s the difference.”
Meanwhile, on the film front, Aamir is currently busy promoting his upcoming family entertainer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ which is all set to hit the theaters on August 11, 2022. The film will clash with Akshay Kumar’s next film ‘Raksha Bandhan’.
