G20 Summit in India: 200 meetings of G20 will be held in India, preparations begin

G20 Summit in India 2023: Preparations are underway in India to host the G20 meetings in India. India will assume the chairmanship of the grouping in December this year, and next year’s event will see around 200 meetings across the country. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget of 2020 had earmarked a budgetary allocation of Rs 100 crore for the event, to be spent on adequate security arrangements as well as other preparations across the country.

India will assume the presidency of the G20 for a year from December, and of the 200 meetings that will be hosted, some will be held in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. Security is being tightened in both these union territories. The G20 summit in 2023 will be held in Delhi on 9-10 September. Meanwhile, the upcoming G20 summit will be held in Bali in November this year.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend this program along with other leaders of G20. G20 members include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the USA and the European Union. .

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the G20 nations collectively account for 85 percent of global GDP, 75 percent of international trade and two-thirds of the world population. This makes it a major platform for economic cooperation. India is currently part of the G20 troika (current, previous and upcoming G20 presidencies), which also includes Indonesia and Italy. This will be the first time that the troika will include three developing countries and emerging economies. India started working towards organizing the G20 events earlier this year. Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla is the G20 coordinator while NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant is the G20 Sherpa.

India, along with Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the United Arab Emirates as G20 chair, as well as International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and Asian Development Bank as international guests will invite. It is a great honor to preside over the G20.
