NEET JEE Exam latest update: Union Education Minister clarified, NEET and JEE exam will not be held together

NEET JEE Exam latest update: According to a report in All India Radio, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that there is no proposal to merge the two national level entrance exams NEET and JEE with Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG). Pradhan made this remark while interacting with the students of a coaching center in Kota, Rajasthan. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla was also present on the occasion.

Dharmendra Pradhan’s remarks are in stark contrast to what University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar had said last month. The UGC chief had said that the central government is exploring the possibility of merging the undergraduate level medical and engineering entrance examinations with the new examination CUET.

They had expressed the possibility of conducting exams together

Actually he had said that we have three major entrance exams, which are NEET, JEE (Main) and CUET and a large number of students appear for these. All these exams are conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Hence, we are wondering why not use CUET score alone for admission in multiple subjects. Also bringing JEE (Main) and NEET exam under one roof will help in reducing the burden of the students and the idea is also in line with the Centre’s National Policy on Education, 2020.

So many lakh students have applied

Significantly, CUET was launched this year for the undergraduate entrance exam in 90 universities including 45 central universities and 18 lakh students applied for it, making it the second largest exam after NEET, while for NEET. 10.5 lakh applications were received. While the UGC chairman said that the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 also envisages “one nation, one admission” and will ease the burden of students appearing for multiple entrance examinations for higher education.

The NEET or National Eligibility Entrance Test is conducted for admission to undergraduate medical courses, while the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is conducted for engineering courses.
