Maharashtra: Four sadhus of UP were brutally beaten up in Maharashtra, police giving clarification

Maharashtra News: Four sadhus of UP were brutally thrashed on suspicion of child theft in Lavange village of Jat taluka of Sangli district of Maharashtra. After the video of the assault went viral, the police gave a clarification. The SP of Sangli told that these four sadhus are residents of UP and were going to Pandharpur for darshan. Here the local people could not understand their language, due to which people beat them as child thieves.

Sangli SP Dixit Kumar Gedam said that these sadhus were going from Bijapur to Pandharpur and some people beat them up in Lavange village, however, after information, the police reached the spot and got the injured sadhus treated.

Police say that the sadhus were beaten up by the people and the police of the local Umdi police station got them treated, but they left without registering a complaint and no action was taken against those who beat up the police without getting a written complaint. The SP of the district has also said to investigate after giving clarification after the video went viral.

The matter got worse due to lack of understanding of the local language.

Sources said that while talking to the locals on the way, the matter worsened due to not understanding each other’s local language and the local people thrashed the sadhus. In 2020, in Gadchinchle village of Palghar district of Maharashtra, a mob of 2 sadhus were lynched for this reason. Those sadhus were going to attend the funeral in Surat by sitting in the car.
