Opposition party sources said Naidu also called Congress leaders Kharge and Jairam Ramesh and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal to resolve the situation arising out of Sonia Gandhi’s name being raised in the Rajya Sabha. During the meeting, Kharge demanded that Gandhi’s name be dropped as she is not a member of the Upper House, Goyal replied on how PM Narendra Modi’s name is taken on every subject by the opposition.

Sources said Kharge told them that Modi is the prime minister of the country and his name can be taken in either house of Parliament. Sources said Naidu, after hearing both sides, agreed to the opposition’s demand and removed the references made by Sitharaman directly to Sonia Gandhi in the House last Thursday.

Kharge had written to the Rajya Sabha Chairman last week demanding that Sonia Gandhi’s name and references made by her be expunged from the record and cited past examples to support his argument.
