Queen Elizabeth’s First Visit to India: Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-reigning monarch, died on Thursday. Elizabeth II, who became Queen of Britain in 1952, ruled Britain for the longest time. She was the queen of not only Britain but 14 more countries, due to her death, there has been a wave of mourning in the whole world. Queen Elizabeth visited India three times, but her first visit in 1961 is considered the most memorable. During this, she took off her sandals at Raj Ghat to pay homage to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. He also had a priceless gift given to him by Bapu, which he has kept till date.

Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II visited India three times in 1961, 1983 and 1997. Queen Elizabeth was accompanied by her husband Prince Philip during all three visits. Queen Elizabeth was given a warm welcome during all three visits to India, but experts say that her first visit to India was the most memorable. She visited India for the first time in 1961, 14 years after India got freedom from the British Raj. At that time the President of the country was Dr. Rajendra Prasad and the Prime Minister was Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. President Dr Rajendra Prasad, Pandit Nehru and Vice President Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan had arrived at the airport to welcome Queen Elizabeth II. After visiting India, he also visited Pakistan and Nepal. During the first tour, people thronged to get a glimpse of him.

Salute to Bapu by taking off his sandals

The most important program of Queen Elizabeth II during her first visit to India was to visit the Raj Ghat, the tomb of the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi had fought a long struggle to get the country free from the slavery of the British and under his leadership, the people of the country had succeeded in getting freedom after a long fight. After reaching Mahatma Gandhi’s samadhi at Raj Ghat, Queen Elizabeth had given him a lot of respect and she came to pay tribute to the Father of the Nation Bapu by taking off her sandals. When Queen Elizabeth took off her sandals, her husband Prince Philip also took off his shoes and arrived to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

Saved Bapu’s gift

Queen Elizabeth also had a priceless gift from Bapu, the Father of the Nation. This was disclosed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself. PM Modi had met Queen Elizabeth II during her visits to the UK in 2015 and 2018. PM Modi told that his meeting with Queen Elizabeth was very memorable. His warmth and kindness will never be forgotten. According to Prime Minister Modi, during a meeting, Queen Elizabeth II showed him another handkerchief which was gifted to him by the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. Modi said the Queen has always displayed decency and dignity in public life and will always be remembered as a stalwart.

Father’s death was reported on Kenya tour

When Queen Elizabeth got the throne of Britain’s Queen on 6 February 1952, she was only 25 years old. He was officially coronated on 2 June 1953. It was also a strange coincidence that Elizabeth learned of the death of her father, King George, when she was not in Britain. She was on a tour of Kenya with her husband Prince Philip and it was there that she received the sad news of her father’s death. His father, King George, was ailing for a long time. Elizabeth immediately returned to Britain after receiving the information of her father’s death, and upon her return home, she was given the important responsibility of Queen of Britain. Since then till now he has fulfilled this important responsibility with full responsibility. She remained Queen of Britain for nearly seven decades. In recent times, his activity had reduced significantly due to his age and ill health.
