Importance of Navratri

The name of the nine-day festival, Navaratri is derived from Sanskrit Nava meaning nine and Raat meaning night.
According to the age-old Hindu mythology, Navratri marks the victory of good over evil. Hindu traditions tell that Goddess Durga fought a demon named Mahishasura for nine whole days and finally beheaded him on the tenth day. Lord Rama had won the victory of good over evil by killing Ravana. That is why the festival of Vijayadashami or Dussehra is celebrated on the tenth day after nine days of Navratri.

Do not do this during Navratri 2022
Satvik food should be taken during Navratri.
In a simple vegetarian diet during Navratri, one avoids vegetables like onion, garlic, okra, brinjal and mushrooms.
If you are fasting during Navratri then you can consume fasting flour, vegetables, fruits and spices.
Wheat, rice, semolina, maida, corn flour, legumes and pulses should not be consumed during the fast.

It is advised to stay away from vengeful foods like garlic, onions, mushrooms, leeks and shallots.
Consumption of alcohol, eggs, meat is strictly prohibited.
