Ahmedabad Pitch Controversy: Narendra Modi Stadium may avoid ICC punishment, this may be the wicket for the fourth test

New Delhi: After the Pink Ball Test between India and England (IND vs ENG) was over within 2 days, there was a lot of criticism about the Ahmedabad pitch (Pitch). Despite this, there is no possibility of severe punishment from the ICC because the pitch of the last Test is expected to be batting friendly.

India are leading 2–1 in the 4-Test series and will only have to draw the last Test to be held in Ahmedabad to qualify for the final of the ICC World Test Championship. There is little chance of another spin-friendly pitch as the home team does not want to take any risk regarding the pitch.

A senior BCCI official, who was aware of the matter, told PTI on the condition of anonymity, “There is hope for a good pitch which will be solid and there will be a similar bounce.” It will be bat-friendly and it will be a traditional red ball test match, so a much bigger score can be expected here than in the match that takes place from March 4 to 8.

The team management along with the top officials of BCCI also understands that another pitch full of dust will not be good for the new venue whose Indian Premier League (IPL) and ICC T20 World Cup Many important matches are expected to be hosted during the course of the tournament.

The BCCI official said, ‘If there are 2 matches on the same venue, then you cannot separate one result. Let the final Test take place and only after that the ICC will decide on its action based on the report of match referee Javagal Srinath. Also, so far the England team has not lodged any official complaint.

If there is a good and a bad pitch on the same venue, then the ICC is unlikely to take action. India will be happy to name this series 3–1, but the team does not need a favorable pitch for the spin that will give the result, because the draw is enough for that. Also, the Indian team management does not want a pitch on which they have to suffer losses while playing in a very important match.

He said, ‘Pink ball test was good because it was more related to the ball. The ball was falling fast on the pitch while there was no problem in the pitch as many former England players are saying. He failed to face the straight balls, but pitches like this can also outweigh themselves and the BCCI is well aware of this.

There will be a change in the team combination of the next Test as Jasprit Bumrah has been given permission to not play in the next Test due to personal reasons. In the last Test of Mohammed Siraj, Ishant Sharma is expected to play with the new ball more than Umesh Yadav while the three spinners are almost certain to play. Washington Sundar’s superior batting ability could be crucial to the middle order in the last Test.
