New Delhi: Team India, captained by Virat Kohli, has to play a 5-match Test series against England in August next month at his home. But before the start of this series, a bad news has come to the fore. Indian team captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane have been injured. This is a big setback before the big series against England.
Both players can be out of the series
BCCI has issued a medical update on the injuries of Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. The BCCI said in a statement, “Captain Kohli was suffering from some hip problem, after which the board’s medical team advised him to stay out of the three-day practice match.” Whereas vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is struggling with the problem of hamstrings. Rahane has also had to take an injection due to a problem with the hamstring. If these two players are not able to recover by next month, then it will be a big setback. Fans will hope that both these players get well before the series because if these players are out of the series then it will be a big loss.
Rohit Sharma can become captain
If Virat and Rahane had to be out of the England series, then the captaincy of the team can be handed over to Rohit Sharma for the first time. Rohit has previously captained Team India in ODIs and T20s and under his captaincy, Team India has never lost any major series or tournament. In such a situation, in the absence of Virat and Rahane, Rohit can be made the captain of the team. If this happens, then this will be the first time that Rohit will be made the captain of the Test team.
Series not won after 2007
India last won a Test series against England in 2007. At that time, India had won 1-0 in the three-match series. But since then every time the British have defeated India. However, when the England team came to India this year, India defeated them 3-1 in the Test series.
