Commonwealth Games: Cyclist Mayuri Lute finishes 18th in women’s 500m time trial final

Mayuri Lute made a comeback to finish 18th in the women’s 500m time trial final as Indian cyclists continued their struggle at the Commonwealth Games on Sunday. Lute finished lowest in the 20-cyclist final with a time of 36.868 seconds. Australia’s Christina Klonen won the gold medal in 33.234 s. Another Indian, Vishwajit Singh, did not finish in his men’s 15km scratch race final.

Earlier in the day, top Indian cyclist Ronaldo Latonjam lost to Australia’s Matthew Glatzer in the pre-quarterfinals of the men’s sprint event.

The 20-year-old Indian finished the 200m with a timing of 10.11s to 0.162s from Glatzer.

Latonjam had earlier finished 13th after a time of 10.012 in the qualifying round at Lee Valley Velo Park here.


His teammates David Beckham (10.120) and Esso Alben (10.361) finished 18th and 23rd in the qualifying rounds.

Latonjam won a silver medal in the senior sprint event at the Asian Track Championships in New Delhi in June.
