County News – Kyle Abbott extends Hampshire stay with new contract

Kyle Abbott will spend at least two more seasons at Hampshire after signing a two-year extension of his contract with County.

Abbott rejoined Hampshire on a Kolpak deal ahead of the 2017 season – he previously played for them in 2014 – and has been one of their overseas players since eligibility rules changed following the UK’s departure from the EU.

He has taken 278 first-class wickets for them at an average of 19.52 since re-signing, and is the leading wicket-taker in Division One of the County Championship this season with 49 at 20.28.

“I’m happy to be with Hampshire for two more years,” Abbott said. “We have a great group of players and since joining in 2017, I have made some great friendships and memories; I am very proud to call the Ageas Bowl my home.

“We have made some great progress as a team and hope to continue our success and get our hands on some more silverware in the years to come.”

Hampshire Director of Cricket Giles White said: “Introducing the right people into the squad is a key element to a successful team and we feel we have won the gold medal with Kyle. He has been one of the most influential overseas players in English. There is a real affinity for the sport and the club. We are lucky to have that.”
