Sourav Ganguly, Eoin Morgan, Muttiah Muralitharan, Misbah-ul-Haq, Johnson among 53 to play in Legends League cricket

BCCI president and former India captain Sourav Ganguly is set to return to the cricket field almost seven years after his last competitive game, when he plays in the second season of Legends League Cricket (LLC). In a post on Instagram, Ganguly said he was playing a “one-time charity fund-raising game” to mark 75 years of Indian independence.

The tournament will be played from September 17 to October 8 in five cities in India, which are likely to be Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi, Jodhpur and Cuttack and Rajkot. ESPNcricinfo has learned that Pakistani players will be available once necessary government clearances are received.

The first season of the league was played in Muscat in January this year between three teams – India Maharajas, World Giants and Asia Lions and consisted of seven games. Mohammad Kaif led the Maharajas, Darren Sammy was the captain of the Giants, and Misbah led the Lions. The Giants defeated the Lions by 25 runs in the final to be crowned champions.

Apart from Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, India’s women’s fast bowler Jhulan Goswami is included in the ambassador of the league. According to the league’s website, Ravi Shastri is the league commissioner and Wasim Akram is the only apex council member.
