T20 World Cup 2022 – Fakhar Zaman out of Pakistan team due to knee injury, Shan Masood called

Fakhar Zaman has been ruled out of Pakistan’s squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup due to a knee injury, while Shan Masood has been called up. Fakhar was instead designated as one of the traveling reserves.
Shaheen Shah Afridi, who is currently out with a knee injury, was named in the main squad as Pakistan prepared to fit him in time for the global event. Meanwhile, Mohammad Hasnain dismissed Shahnawaz Dahani, who fell in reserve.
There has been no major change in the team that played the Asia Cup earlier this month. Despite playing just one match in the tournament and a limited time before that, Usman Qadir retained his place.

The team will first travel to New Zealand, where they will play a T20I tri-series against New Zealand and Bangladesh in Christchurch from 7-14 October.

Pakistan have been named in an 18-man squad for the upcoming seven-match T20I series against England, with both Shaheen and Fakhar Zaman absent.

Wasim said, “Fakhar Zaman has also been rested from the England T20 International to recover from a knee injury he had landed awkwardly while fielding in the final.”

Masood is also part of that squad, while all-rounder Aamer Jamal and legspinner Abrar Ahmed have got international call-ups for the first time. Both impressed in the ongoing National T20 Cup. The first match will take place on 20 September in Karachi, which will host a total of four matches before moving to Lahore for the final three matches.

Pakistan will play their first World Cup match against India on 23 October at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. They will also play New Zealand, Afghanistan and two qualifiers in the group stage, before the top two sides qualify for the semi-finals.
