Shillong: In Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district, several houses were buried under debris in a landslide triggered by heavy rains, in which female cricketer Razia Ahmed has died. While five other people are missing.
Giving this information, the officials said that the incident took place in Mawanei area of the district at around six in the morning. The body of 30-year-old Razia, who has played several national level cricket tournaments for Meghalaya, has been taken out of the rubble.
The sarpanch of Mawanei area told that, ‘Razia Ahmed’s body has been removed from the rubble. Five other people are still missing. The police and home guards team are engaged in the rescue operation.
Meghalaya Cricket Association general secretary Gideon Kharkongor said that Razia had been representing the state in various national level tournaments since 2011-12. He said that Razia participated in the tournament organized by the BCCI last year on behalf of Meghalaya.
Razia’s teammates have also mourned her demise. Female cricketer Kakoli Chakraborty said, ‘Razia will be missed. We will pray for the peace of his soul ‘.
