In the second ODI, England won the toss and decided to bat first. The English team started badly and by the 7th over both openers Johnny Bairstow and Jason Roy were out. After which Sam Billings also went on to score 8 runs. The lower-order batsmen led the team to a respectable score.
Chris Woakes contributed 26 runs, while Tom Curren and Rashid added 76 runs for the 9th wicket. Tom Curren scored 37 runs while Adil Rashid remained unbeaten on 35, and the hosts set a target of 232 runs to win in front of Australia.
Australia’s batsman Steve Smith was not included in the playing XI in the second match as well. He suffered a head injury although his second CONCESSION test report also came out correct, but he was kept out of the match as a precaution and the kangaroos suffered. Australia, chasing a target, were all out for 207 runs in 48.4 overs.
The England bowlers performed brilliantly, showing batsmen David Warner and Stoinis the path of the pavilion in the beginning. Australia made a century partnership for the third wicket, but then the rapid wickets started to fall, after which the England bowlers did not give the Australian batsmen a chance to return and the Kangaroos had to face defeat by 24 runs. Chris Woakes, Joffra Archer and Tom Curren took three wickets each for England, while Jofra Archer was given the ‘Man of the Match’.
