Stokes wrote in his column in the Daily Mirror, it was very difficult to say goodbye to his father, mother and brother in Christchurch. This is a very difficult time for us as a family, but we have supported each other well. He said, after reaching this decision as a family, not from any outside influence, I have left to play with the love and blessings of my parents.

His father is battling brain cancer and is currently in New Zealand. Stokes withdrew from the team midway despite being captained in the home Test series against Pakistan due to his father’s ailment and went to his father in New Zealand. He has returned to the UAE after spending five weeks with his family.

Stokes recalled his conversation with his parents in New Zealand and said, “My father is always alert to the responsibilities that I have.” He told me that it is my duty to complete the work that I have. He said that apart from the son, I also have my duties as a father and husband, to fulfill which I should concentrate on my career. The 29-year-old New Zealand-born all-rounder said, “We discussed it a lot and we came to the decision that I should now focus on my game in the IPL and after that I will return to Clare and the kids.”
