Former Indian cricketer Yashpal Sharma has passed away. Yashpal Sharma died on Tuesday morning due to a heart attack. Yashpal Sharma’s age was 66 years. Yashpal Sharma was part of the Indian team that won the World Cup in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. Yashpal Sharma played 37 Tests and 42 ODIs for India in his career. Yashpal Sharma scored 1606 runs in Test cricket with 2 centuries while he has 89 runs to his name in ODIs.

India’s 1983 World Cup hero Yashpal Sharma is survived by wife, two daughters and a son. A former colleague of Yashpal Sharma said, ‘Yashpal is no more with us. We just got this information from his family.

Yashpal Sharma is known for his combativeness. Cricket fans will always remember his half-century innings in the semi-final against England in the 1983 World Cup. Yashpal Sharma was also the national selector of India.
