new Delhi: The Sports Ministry has announced a new incentive framework to provide financial assistance to 500 private academies under the Khelo India Scheme in the next 4 years. Under this, private academies will be divided into different classes based on the achievements and quality of their players, level of coaches, level of sports, availability of sports science facilities and staff.

For this, 14 sports selected as priority for the 2028 Olympics have been included. Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “It is necessary to support such organizations so that talent can be searched and polished from far flung areas. Through this, all academies, especially private academies trying to improve the infrastructure will get help.

Olympic medal winner and shooter Gagan Narang said on this, ‘This is a step towards boosting the morale of private academies. This will help them to create world class infrastructure even further. Gagan Narang also runs a private academy ‘Gun for Glory’.

National Badminton Coach Pullela Gopichand thanked the Government and Sports Authority of India and said that this is an important step forward.
