London: Team India’s captain Virat Kohli has credited the entire team for the 151-run victory against England in the second Test match played at Lord’s. He said that the partnership between Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah for the 9th wicket in the second innings created an atmosphere of victory for the team.
Shami-Bumrah turned the tide
Mohammed Shami scored 56 * and Jasprit Bumrah scored 34 *. After an unbroken partnership of 89 runs between these two, India declared their second innings at 298 for eight and gave England a target of 272 runs. After this the entire English team was all out for 120 runs.
Virat proud of his team
Virat Kohli said after the match, ‘I am proud of the whole team. The bowlers did not get help for the first 3 days of the pitch but we implemented our strategy well. The way Jasprit and Bumrah batted under pressure conditions in the second innings was unmatched. This is where the atmosphere was created which helped us further.
Lower Order Compliments
Virat Kohli said, ‘The lower order batsmen do not get many opportunities to make such partnerships and whenever we have been successful, then our lower order has contributed.’ Kohli said that the team understood that it would be difficult to score 272 runs in 60 overs but 10 wickets can be taken.
Such was the plan of victory
Virat Kohli said, ‘We knew that we can take 10 wickets. A little tension on the field inspired us. We wanted to encourage Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah and so we handed them the new ball. He also got us wickets immediately.
Virat remembered Dhoni
This is India’s third win at Lord’s. Earlier, he had won here in 2014 under the leadership of MS Dhoni. Virat Kohli was also a part of that team. Kohli said, ‘I was part of that team with Dhoni bhai in 2014 but today it was amazing to win in 60 overs. Mohammad Siraj was playing at Lord’s for the first time and he bowled brilliantly. Nothing can be a better gift for Indian fans than this win.
Dhoni had won at Lord’s
Under the captaincy of MS Dhoni, India played a Test against England from 17 to 21 July 2014 at Lord’s. Then Team India won this match by 95 runs. Ishant Sharma was given the ‘Man of the Match’ award for taking 7 wickets in the last innings. Virat had scored 25 and 0 runs respectively in both the innings of this match. In this way, Virat has won the Lord’s Test as a player and as a captain.
