Kolkata Knight Riders batsman Nitish Rana made his India debut in July last year during the tour of Sri Lanka. In his only ODI innings, the southpaw scored 7 runs, while in two T20I innings he scored 15 runs overall. Such a debut in international cricket failed to earn Rana a second national call-up, but the player is optimistic about his return to the national team. Admitting that he could have done better in his first chance, Rana said that he would improve his performance to enter the national team.

Rana is eyeing the upcoming Indian Premier League season to grab the attention of the selectors and is determined to give his 100 per cent.

“As a cricketer I would have liked one more chance, but I don’t want to give any excuse, because I didn’t play very well. I want to score more than 500 runs from the next IPL season so that the selectors can’t ignore me. Joe Things are under my control that is to give good performances and score runs, and I am trying to improve there. This season, I hope to score more runs. But everything is not in my hands, I am giving my best I want that, that’s all. Wherever I play, I will give my 100 percent and do well.” Rana said in an interview to India Today,

Rana scored 361 runs in IPL 2022 at an average of 27.77 but feels he needs to do better to get into the Indian team. However, he said that he will try to do better in domestic cricket as well.

“If people are not picking me after scoring 400, then I have to score 600, and I understand it now. The future is in my hands and I am working on that,” Rana said.

“I don’t have any target like that. I want to score more runs in the domestic season, and then in the IPL season and the things I wanted for a few years will come,” he said.
