Cricket Australia has said that Richardson on Tuesday informed the national selectors of his decision that he was withdrawing from the team to spend time with his wife and newborn son. National selector Trevor Hons said in a statement issued by CA, “It was a difficult decision for Kane but it has the full support of the selectors and the team.”

He said, ‘Ken wanted to live in Adelaide with (his wife) Nike and their newborn son. We will always support our players and their families, we are with them in view of the current challenging situation. We will miss him in the team but we fully understand his decision and support it.

It seems that Richardson’s decision this week is influenced by rising cases of corona virus infection in Adelaide and some states closing their borders. Due to the closure of the borders of some states, CA was forced to call some of its cricketers, including captain Tim Paine and Marnus Labuschen, on the aircraft before the first ODI against India on November 27 in Sydney.

The first Test of the 4-Test series between India and Australia is to be played in Adelaide from 17 December. The CA has already clarified that it is committed to conducting the first test (day-night) in Adelaide and is constantly monitoring the situation.
