New Delhi: The England team, which suffered a 151-run defeat against India in the Lord’s Test, is being criticized everywhere. The biggest reason for losing so badly at Lord’s, which is called the Mecca of cricket, was that only Joe Root batted for the entire team of England and the entire English team depends a lot on Root at this time.
Graham Gooch said this thing
Former England batsman Graham Gooch believes that England is largely dependent on captain Joe Root to score. Gooch said in an interview to the Daily Mail on Sunday, ‘We are largely dependent on one person. I have experience with this and it is not a complaint but in my career it used to be a lot of responsibility to deliver results.
“As a player you have to be in the best form in life, but you can’t do that all the time and those expectations don’t help. Everyone needs to contribute. When I became the captain, it propelled me to the best phase of my career.
World class batsman told Root
Gooch said, ‘I finally felt about the pressure. I had a good series against Australia and scored two centuries. But I felt the pressure that I needed to do well because we had a lot of young players. You just feel the pressure. There is pressure on Root too because he gives 50, 60, 70 per cent of our batting. Root is a world class player and is performing well. He is doing this continuously. But in every game there comes a period when you come down. It is not possible that you perform in every match.
He said, ‘You have to go through a bad time in cricket, because it is an individual sport in a team sport. You can think of it a lot.’
