New Delhi: The England team, captained by Joe Root, defeated Team India by an innings and 76 runs in the Leeds Test match. Due to poor performance of the batsmen in this match, India had to face defeat. Team India’s wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant has flopped badly throughout the tour of England. In such a situation, captain Virat Kohli has given a big statement regarding his place in the upcoming matches.
Kohli said on replacing Pant
Indian captain Virat Kohli on Saturday backed wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, saying the team management would give him all the opportunity to bat in the remaining five-Test series against England. The 23-year-old Pant, who played in all three matches of the current series against England, has not played yet. He has scored 25 runs in Nottingham, 37 and 22 runs at Lord’s, and two and one in Leeds, making him a total of 84 runs.
Kohli said, ‘As I said, I can’t measure it with a loss or I can’t start analyzing it as a captain. Obviously the management will not even start analyzing it because we are not failing as a team. In the virtual press conference, when asked about the problem of Pant not scoring runs in the lower middle order, he said, ‘We are not losing consistently, when I say this, I mean this. We definitely lost this match as a team and we take responsibility for that.
Will give Pant a chance – Kohli
Kohli said, “The same was being done about Cheteshwar Pujara, who seems to have disappeared after yesterday, so we want to give Rishabh full opportunity to play his game and want him to understand the situation.” And take the responsibility as is expected of everyone in the batting order. According to Kohli, cricketers cannot always be judged on the basis of the number of runs.
Kohli said, ‘You can’t always judge people by numbers whether they are succeeding or failing, you don’t make a team like this.’ He said, ‘There is still time in this series. After two more Test matches we can see and assess whether we were not right in these departments but now is not the time.
Pujara also praised
Pujara did not score runs before the third match, he played an innings of 91 runs, although the team lost. Kohli said, ‘We are very happy with the way Pujara batted in this innings. We don’t care what is being said outside. We know he was playing well and it is just a matter of time when he will regain his momentum.
