New Delhi: Indian leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has said that he worked with the coaches and Jayant Yadav to regain form. In the first T20 match played between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday, Indian leg-spinner Chahal played an important role in the team’s victory and managed to retain his place in the team.
Chahal was not in good form
The 31-year-old Chahal took one wicket for 19 runs in four overs and kept the Sri Lankan innings in check in the middle overs even though he was not at his best in the last few matches. Talking to the media after the match, Chahal said, “My job is to control the game in the middle overs and I am very happy that I did that.” I controlled the game in the middle overs and didn’t think of trying too much.
Chahal is happy to see bench strength
Talking further, Chahal said, if the bench strength is so good and you have a strong pool of players, that brings quality. If you talk about the spinners, they are all doing well and you know you have players behind you who have already been doing well in the IPL. He said, ‘My focus is on my performance. Whenever I play, I should perform. If you perform, then only you play. If you don’t perform, no matter what, you can’t be in the team, so I don’t think much, whatever my goal is, I focus on that.
Jayant Yadav helped
The leg-spinner said, in lockdown, I talked to the coaches. I didn’t need to concentrate much. I just had to focus on the line, so I sat with Bharat Arun sir, talked to Paras Mhabre sir and then I believed in myself. Chahal said, I practiced with Jayant, we have known each other since childhood, so I spoke to him too. I also bowled to him and then things started getting easier for me from there. I think the more I trust my bowling, the better I will be able to do.
