The second T20I between India and South Africa was a high-scoring competition where the batsmen of both the teams lit up the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati with their power-packed performances. Although it was the Indian team that emerged victorious, successfully defending 237, South African batsman David Miller won many hearts with his fighting century, which brought the tourists closer to the hosts’ total. Such was the quality of Miller’s batting that even Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli could not stop him from walking to South Africa and acknowledged his effort.

Miller, who scored 106 off just 47 balls, could not put the finishing touches to take on the Proteas. But, his efforts with the bat impressed Indian legends Rohit and Kohli, who went to the middle-order batsman and praised his innings. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) shared a video featuring Miller, in which both the India captain and his predecessor were seen talking after his massive South African effort. Here’s the video:

Chasing the target of 238 runs, South Africa did not have a good start. Proteas captain Temba Bavuma (0 off 7 balls) and Riley Rosso (0 off 2 balls) were both dismissed by Arshdeep Singh in the second over. Quinton de Kock (69 off 48 balls) remained unbeaten with Miller but his efforts were good enough to keep South Africa alive in the competition.

Earlier, the Indian team had a solid performance with the bat where Suryakumar Yadav (61 off 22 balls) and KL Rahul (57 off 28 balls) were the top-scoring batsmen for the hosts. Even Rohit (43 off 37), Kohli (49 off 28 balls) and Dinesh Karthik (17 off 7 balls) also made valuable contributions with the bat.

Although India have a series in their kitty, they have some concerns ahead of the T20 World Cup 2022. The Guwahati match once again showed how bad the team’s death bowling has been in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Arshdeep Singh, Axar Patel and Harshal Patel gave scores of over 11 per over. Deepak Chahar’s performance – 24 runs in 4 overs – was the only saving grace for the Men in Blue in the bowling unit.
