Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra said on Tuesday that India will send a 228-member contingent, including 119 players, to the Tokyo Olympics. During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s interaction with Olympic-going players, Batra told that out of 119 players, 67 are male and 52 are female participants. Batra said, ‘The total number of Indian contingent for Tokyo Olympics will be 228. There are 67 male players and 52 female players. We will challenge in 85 medal events.
India’s largest contingent for Olympics
This will be India’s largest ever contingent in the Olympics. He said, ‘The first team from India to Tokyo will leave from here on July 17. There will be a total of 90 players and officials in this. Four players and coaches of the Indian sailing contingent reached Tokyo on Tuesday. Sailing players practicing in different countries of Europe reached the capital of Japan from their practice site.
These players have arrived here from Europe, so they will not have to face the stringent restrictions imposed on other players coming from India regarding Kovid-19. Boxing and shooting teams will also reach Tokyo from Italy and Croatia respectively. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will reach Tokyo from the US on July 15 or 16. The Tokyo Olympics will be held from July 23 to August 8. The entry of spectators is not allowed in the stadium during the games due to the pandemic.
