Indonesia Masters: Srikanth’s journey in the semi-finals ends, PV Sindhu also out


New Delhi: Two-time Olympic medalists PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth lost their women’s and men’s singles matches respectively in the semi-finals of the Indonesia Masters Super 750 badminton tournament, ending India’s challenge in the tournament.

Sindhu lost in straight games to top seed Akane Yamaguchi of Japan while Srikanth was defeated by third seed Anders Antonsen of Denmark. He lost this one-sided match 13 – 21, 9 – 21 within 32 minutes.

Srikanth, who defeated compatriot HS Prannoy in the last eight matches of men’s singles, failed to challenge Antonsen. He lost the match 14-21, 9-21 for 41 minutes. The Indian player, who was ranked first in the world ranking, gave a tough competition to the Danish player at the beginning of the match. After coming back, he made the score 3-3, 4-4, 5-5 and then 12-11 but after that he lost the momentum. In the second game, he went down 12-4 in a very short time to draw 4-4 and then failed to make a comeback.
