The franchise teams that have England and Australian cricketers have all appealed to the UK to reduce the quarantine period for players returning from playing limited overs series and Sourav Ganguly-led Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) The issue has been resolved with the relevant departments of Emirates (UAE).
A senior IPL official said on the condition of confidentiality, “Yes, I can confirm that all the players of England and Australia will be in Quarantine for 36 hours instead of 6 days. The issue has been resolved and the top players of most teams will be available from the first match itself. Players like David Warner, Steve Smith, Joffra Archer and Jose Butler are included in this list.
A BCCI official had said, ‘They will have a test before boarding the plane and then they will be tested on arrival as well. Otherwise stringent testing protocols will be followed. The reasoning behind this decision is that players are entering from one bio safe environment to another. Earlier, it was reported that a senior player from Australia had written a letter to BCCI President Sourav Ganguly requesting to extend the quarantine period to 3 days instead of 6.
The BCCI has spoken to at least 3 franchisees and they seem happy with the decision. A franchise official said, ‘BCCI has done a very good job by doing a quarantine period of 36 hours. This means that players from Chennai Super Kings (Josh Hazlewood and Tom Curren), Rajasthan Royals (Smith, Butler and Archer) will be available from the very first match. Similarly, Glenn Maxwell for Kings XI Punjab and Alex Carrey for Delhi Capitals will be able to play in the first match.
Kolkata Knight Riders were the only franchise that was not affected by the six-day separation because its first match is on 23 September. His team includes players like Eoin Morgan, Tom Banton and Pat Cummins.
