Rahul scored an unbeaten 132, which helped Kings XI Punjab score 206 for three on being invited to bat first, and then RCB’s team registered a big win by 97 runs in 109 overs in 17 overs. Rahul, however, credited the victory to the entire team.
Rahul, who became the ‘man of the match’ for his brilliant innings, said, ‘It was a complete performance for the team, so I am happy. Actually I was not confident about my batting. Yesterday I spoke to Maxi (Glenn Maxwell) and I said that I do not feel complete control of my batting. He said that you are joking. You are very well hit.
He said, ‘Initially I was a little nervous but I knew that after playing a few balls I would get the rhythm. In spite of being the captain, I use the old routine. Till the toss, I want to think of myself as a player, not a captain. I try to strike a balance between the player and the captain. Rahul praised his bowlers, especially young leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi.
He said, ‘I have seen him in the Under-19 World Cup. He does not give up and whenever he has the ball 2 is ready. He was a little nervous about bowling Aaron Finch and AB (de Villiers) but showed passion. RCB captain Virat Kohli, who took 2 catches of Rahul, admitted that his mistake was heavy on the team because if it caused him a loss of 35-40 runs.
Kohli said, ‘We bowled well in the middle overs. They started well and we made a good comeback. I take responsibility for this. Today was not a good day for me. We lost 35-40 runs by giving two lives to KL (Rahul). If we had stopped them for 180 runs, we would not have been under pressure from the first ball.
He said, ‘Sometimes this happens on the cricket field and we have to accept it. We played a good match and a bad one. Now we have to take lessons from mistakes.
