Abu Dhabi: The defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI), who were beaten by 5 wickets against Chennai Sapoor Kings in their first match, will take on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium today in their second match of the 13th season of the IPL. This is the first match of this season of KKR, captained by Dinesh Karthik. Mumbai lost to Chennai. Quinton Dickock gave the team a good start but Mumbai’s middle order could not convert a good start into a big score except Sourav Tiwari. Tiwari had scored 42 runs from 31 balls.

The result was that Mumbai’s team could only manage 162 runs by losing 9 wickets in 20 overs. After this, his bowlers could not defend these runs from the Chennai batsmen. Faf du Plessi and Ambati Rayudu coined the team’s winning story. Even after having aggressive batsmen like Hardik Pandya, Kiron Pollard in the middle order, the middle order of Mumbai was easily piled up. The team management would definitely want the team to rectify this mistake against KKR.
The Mumbai bowlers had bowled well initially and had dropped 2 wickets from Chennai for 6 runs. Like the batsmen, the bowlers too could not take advantage of a good start. If the Mumbai bowlers are successful in today’s match, then the pressure on the KKR team will increase. Once again captain Rohit Sharma and Dickock will be seen starting the innings. As far as it seems, the team management will not change the playing eleven.
The Mumbai bowlers did not spend much runs, but Jasprit Bumrah was one such bowler whose balls were heavily smashed. If Mumbai has to come back, Bumrah will have to do well. Kolkata is the last time the IPL was held in the UAE (co-hosted with India) when Kolkata won the title. He lifted the trophy by defeating Punjab in the last over.
This time Kolkata has released their experienced players Chris Lynn, Robin Uthappa, Piyush Chawla and have brought Pat Cummins, Eoin Morgan, Tom Benton into their team. Kolkata’s batting attack has talented young players like Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill. To strengthen their batting, the franchise has also included Tom Benton in the team. He has told what Benton can do in the Big Bash League.
At the same time, KKR’s middle order looks dangerous with Andre Russell. It has gained strength with the arrival of England captain Eoin Morgan. Sunil can start the innings with Naren, Tom Benton or Gill. All three are capable of giving a fast start to the team. In the past several seasons, it has been seen that the success of KKR depends largely on the spinners and in the spin attack of the team, the names of Naren, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakraborty are named. Varun has not played a single match in the IPL so far. Therefore, more responsibility for spin will be on Kuldeep and Naren.
Kolkata has another option in the form of Chris Green, but due to less experience, he hardly gets a chance. Kolkata have strengthened their pace bowling attack after the 2019 season was poor. This time the team has included Pat Cummins. Loki Ferguson, Kamlesh Nagerkoti and Shivam Mavi have options in fast bowling.
Kolkata has brought Ali Khan from America this time. He did well in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). If seen on paper, Mumbai’s team seems to dominate Karthik’s team. Both teams have played a total of 25 matches so far, of which Mumbai have won 19 matches. Kolkata is capable of doing anything in the circumstances and in the changed field. Let’s see which players of IPL can get a chance.
