IPL 2020 KXIP vs KKR: Punjab would like to end the drought of victory by defeating KKR, Match Preview

Abu Dhabi: In the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) will face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at Sheikh Zayed Stadium today. Kings XI, who have lost three consecutive matches, will have to win over Kolkata today, which is full of confidence after a great performance.

KKR’s challenge will be even more difficult for the Punjab team, who lost the previous match to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 69 runs, who have a good mix of young and experienced players. After five defeats and a lone win, Punjab are at the bottom of the table with two points while KKR are fourth with six points with three wins.

After a poor performance in some matches, KKR has joined the top contenders for the title, most of its players are in form. Shubman Gill is impressing as an opener, while Rahul Tripathi has great confidence.

Sunil Narayan has returned to form with bat and ball after the initial failures. Eoin Morgan’s presence in the middle order gives strength to the team and Nitish Rana has also impressed. Andre Russell, however, has not yet shown the form he is known for.

The cause of concern for KKR is the poor form of captain Dinesh Karthik. He failed even after landing at number three at the start of the tournament and could not do anything amazing at number seven in the last match. However, he captained well against Chennai, especially the changes in bowling were effective.

The pace bowling includes Pat Cummins in addition to Kamlesh Nagerkoti and Shivam Mavi, while the spin will be handled by Naromar and Varun Chakraborty.

At the same time, batting for Kings XI Punjab will be on KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal. If Chris Gayle is fit then he will play the first match in this IPL. He had become a victim of ‘food piecing’.

In bowling, Punjab’s attack is on Mohammed Shami. Sheldon Cottrell has not been very effective but the team management continues to rely on him. In this match, it is possible that someone else gets a chance to replace Cottrell. Arshdeep Singh impressed against Hyderabad so it is expected that he will retain his place.

The bowling of death overs has been a matter of concern for Punjab and it will have to be given special attention against a strong team like KKR.
