Dubai: Due to Corona epidemic, the 13th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) is being played in Dubai instead of India. The matches are also being played in the empty ground, but this has not affected the popularity of IPL. Rather, this time the audience’s enthusiasm for IPL has increased considerably. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah has said that the opening match of the IPL played this year has been seen by around 200 million people.
More than 200 million viewers tuned in to watch the match. This is the biggest statistics of the inaugural match of any sports league in the country. No league has ever received such a large number of spectators in its first match. This is a big record in itself.
The inaugural match of IPL-13 was played on 19 September at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. In which Chennai Super Kings, captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, defeated four-time champion Mumbai Indians by five wickets.
