Abu Dhabi: In the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered their first win of the season by beating Delhi Capitals (DC). After this defeat of Delhi, coach Ricky Pointing has no problem in accepting that Sunrisers Hyderabad beat him in all departments in the match. He also refused to blame the pitch and said that it was better when his team was batting.
This is Delhi Capitals first defeat in this season. Chasing the Sunrisers’ target of 163 in the match, Delhi’s team could only manage 147 runs for seven wickets.
Ponting said after the match, ‘I don’t think the circumstances were so different. The ground was big, the square boundary here was big. But in the end Sunrisers Hyderabad beat us’.
He said, ‘We could not do our best. Sunrisers made good partnerships in the top order and rotated the strike well and some players scored big scores. It proved to be a difference in the match.
Regarding the Delhi Capitals top-order batsmen, Ponting said, “If a batsman would have played with a stick and scored a big score, like if a player had played an innings of more than 60 or 70 runs, we probably could have won the match”.
Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer said after the match that the ball was coming at an uneven pace in the second innings but Ponting feels that the conditions were better during his team’s batting.
He said, ‘Today the wicket looked very good. There was some grass on it, it was nice and solid. We saw that there was no more bounce from the new ball.
Ponting said, ‘Warner and Bairstow batted very well in the beginning as per the circumstances. He got the boundary at the time when it was needed, and he scored two runs by running very brilliantly.
He said, ‘The wicket was probably a little better in the second innings and there was dew, so there is no excuse from our side. They beat us’.
