Kolkata: 9 people have been arrested for betting on Indian Premier League 2020 (IPL 2020) matches from different parts of Kolkata. A senior police officer said that based on concrete information, officers of Kolkata Police’s Intelligence Department raided Hare Street, Park Street, Jadavpur and Salt Lake areas on Thursday night and arrested 9 people. They are accused of betting on the IPL match that took place a day earlier. This match was being played between Kings XI Punjab and RCB.

They said that many documents, laptops, mobile phones, tablets and a vehicle have been seized from them. The officer said, “The case is being investigated and we are trying to find out whether the accused are connected with the inter-state speculative gang.”
A similar case came up in Haryana a few days ago. Gurugram Police said on 23 September that it had arrested two youths betting on the Rajasthan Royals vs Chennai Super Kings match. According to the police, speculators have been arrested from Sector 107 of Gurugram and 1 suitcase, 8 mobile phones, 1 notebook, 1 laptop and 1 pen drive have been seized from them. The arrested accused are Virendra (27) and Rakesh Kaushik (35), who are residents of Nangloi area of Delhi.
