Iyer said, ‘This is a big defeat but we cannot celebrate the loss of defeat at this time. Right now we have 2 more matches to play and just need one win. We have been waiting for that win for the last three games. This loss will inspire us to perform well in the remaining matches.

He said, ‘He scored 70 runs in Powerplay and we lost the match right there. We have to come out with a strong and positive mindset. Moral should not be broken by these defeats. The performance before these 3 matches has to be kept in mind.

Sunrisers captain David Warner said that in the next 2 matches, he will also aim to score big so that there is hope of entering the playoffs. He said, ‘We would have chosen to bat first even after winning the toss today. We had to target their fast bowlers. The decision to keep Johnny Bairstow out was tough but we felt that Kane Williamson was needed at number four.

Praising Riddhiman Saha, who scored 87, he said, ‘His strike rate in Powerplay is amazing. He is hurt in the groin. Vijay Shankar’s injury is yet to be known. Rashid has both the ability to take wickets and economical bowling. We have 2 more matches to play in Sharjah. If we can score 220 runs in the same way, then who knows that we will reach the playoffs.
