Abu Dhabi: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Sunil Narine said that during the bowling in the last over against Kings XI Punjab, his beating was fast but he managed to control it.
In the last over of this match of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020), Punjab needed 14 runs to win, but despite the presence of Glenn Maxwell, they played an important role in giving KKR the victory by two runs with just 11 runs.
After the match, Narayan said, ‘I thought before the last ball that I would put it outside the off stump but when the ball went into the air, I thought I had made a mistake’.
KKR batting first, after scoring 164 for six wickets, restricted Punjab to 162 for five. Punjab needed 22 runs in the last three overs with nine wickets left but KKR stopped them from doing so with superb bowling.
Narayan conceded just two runs in the 18th over and took the dangerous wicket of Nicholas Puran.
He said, ‘For me this is not an ideal situation (bowling in the last over) but someone had to do it. I have done this before though. The beating was very fast but I remain calm like this’.
KKR captain Dinesh Karthik also praised Narayan for overcoming the pressure. Karthik said, ‘Sunil Narayan has done this many times. He is calm and concentrated. He always finds a way to contribute to the team ‘.
