Chennai: The legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Muttiah Muralitharan was discharged from a hospital in Chennai here on Monday after a coronary angioplasty.
What is ‘angioplasty’?
‘Angioplasty’ is heart surgery, also known as ballon angioplasty and percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA). In this, the supply of blood is corrected through the arteries.

Muralitharan is SRH bowling coach
Muttiah Muralitharan is the bowling coach of the IPL 2021 Sunrisers Hyderabad team. Murali was taken to the hospital on Sunday evening. Tests revealed that Muralitharan had a blockage in his heart.
What did the hospital say?
On Monday, a press release was issued by Apollo Hospital, according to which, under the supervision of ‘Senior Heart Specialist Dr. G. Sengottuvelu, his coronary angioplasty with a’ stunt ‘will soon resume normal routine activities.
SRH will join the team a week later
Due to strict BCCI rules, they will not be able to connect immediately with Sunrisers Hyderabad. According to PTI’s source, he will be back with his IPL team after completing the 7-day Mandatory Quarantine period.
Muttiah Muralitharan is the most successful bowler in international cricket with 1347 wickets. Murali played 133 Tests and 350 ODIs for Sri Lanka. He has taken 800 wickets in Test cricket and 534 in ODIs. He retired from cricket after the World Cup in 2011.
