Chennai: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Trevor Bellis has said that New Zealand batsman Kane Williamson was not included in the squad for the first match against Kolkata Knight Riders, as he will take more time to get fit. Williamson, batting at number four, scored 317 runs in 11 innings for the Sunrisers last season. At the same time, Johnny Bairstow had scored 345 runs.
Why was Williamson excluded?
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) head coach Trevor Bellis said, ‘We felt Kane would take extra time to get the match fit. He would have replaced Johnny Bairstow if he fit the match. We are not worried about it, because Bairstow also did well in the limited overs series against India.
Bairstow also performed well
Bairstow scored 55 runs yesterday, but Saha got out cheaply at the start of the innings. Bellis said that Bairstow, who played at number four in T20, but who started the innings for England in ODIs, can also start the innings in the IPL. Bellis said, ‘It depends on fitness and form. We know that he can start the innings as well as wicketkeeping. This gives us an option, but he has done well for England at number four.
