New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals announced on Sunday that it has appointed former Indian wicketkeeper Ajay Ratra as the team’s assistant coach ahead of the breathtaking league’s 14th season. Delhi Capitals were runners-up after losing to Mumbai Indians in the final of the previous leg. The upcoming phase of IPL will start from April 9.
On his appointment, Ratra said, “This is a great team to work in which has a lot of talent.” I want to join the team and contribute to its success. I am thankful to the Delhi Capitals management for giving me this great opportunity. He will work under the legendary Australian cricketer Ricky Ponting.
Vinod Bisht, Chief Executive Officer of Delhi welcomed him to Delhi Capitals. Ratra said, ‘His experience as a player and coach will be very important, because we want to strengthen the franchise. We are very happy to include him and wish him all the best for the upcoming season.
Ratra (39 years) recently coached the Assam team in the Syed Mushtaq Ali tournament and the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has also coached the Punjab team in the past. During the camp, he has also worked as the fielding and wicketkeeping coach of the Indian women’s team. However, he is associated with a team for the first time in the IPL franchise.
