In the Commonwealth Games 2022 being played in Birmingham, the Indian women’s fours team of Lawn Bowles created history by winning the gold medal on Tuesday. This came as a phenomenal achievement as it was the first time that India won a medal in the Lawn Bowls event. Team India of Lovely Choubey, Pinky, Nayanmoni Saikia and Roopa Rani Tirkey defeated South Africa 17-10 in the summit clash. Earlier, they defeated New Zealand in a thrilling semi-final match.
Talking about the women’s fours final, India had a good start to the match. He scored the first point after one end of the throw but South Africa soon took the lead and leveled 2-1. India then leveled and put on a dominant performance to not only take the lead in the match but also took the lead 8-2 in their favor after seven throws.
South Africa then made a comeback to level the score at 8-8 after 10 throws. He took a two-point lead even after the next end. The Indian players did not lose heart and leveled with 12 ends of the first throw. He then took the lead after going 12-10 after 13 ends of the throw. In the remaining two ends too, it was India who dominated and secured another 5 points to seal the match 17-10 in their favour.
Congratulations started pouring in for the Indian quartet of Lovely Choubey, Pinky, Nayanmoni Saikia and Roopa Rani Tirkey after winning the Commonwealth Games gold medal.
