Lionel Messi broke Pele’s record, achieved this special status


Barcelona: Star striker Lionel Messi broke the record of Brazilian star Pelé in terms of scoring the most goals for a football club. Messi achieved this position against Valodolid in the Spanish League. Barcelona won 3–0 in this match.

Messi now has 644 goals for Barcelona. Messi has played 749 matches in 17 seasons. Pelé scored 643 goals while playing for Santos of Brazil.

Messi (Lionel Messi) wrote on Instagram after the match, ‘When I started playing football I never thought that I would break a record, especially not about the record that I made today’.

He wrote, ‘I want to thank those people who helped me over the years, my teammates, my family, my friends and all those who supported me every day’.

When Lionel Messi matched Pelé’s record, the Brazilian star congratulated him and said that he respected Messi quite a lot.

Pelé, who played his last match for Santos in 1974, is counted among football’s all-time greatest players.
