Kiwi team record in Southampton

The team of New Zealand has not played any Test match in the Ages Bowl so far. However, the Kiwi team has played 3 ODIs on this ground out of which it won two while one match did not yield results. India won three of the five ODIs played in this ground.

The defeat was won under Dhoni’s captaincy

The first Test match was played in Aegis Bowl in June 2011 while India played the first Test match in July 2014 under the captaincy of MS Dhoni. India lost the match with a big margin of 266 runs. Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami played in the current squad.

Virat also did not get success

Team India played the second Test match at this ground during the 2018 tour of England. At that time Virat Kohli was leading the team but India’s most successful captain also did not get success in Aegis Bowl. The Indian team lost this match by 60 runs.

Pujara’s innings also went waste

Cheteshwar Pujara’s unbeaten 132 in the first innings was the center of attraction for India. With this, India also gained an edge in the first innings, but in the second innings, the Indian team was dismissed for 184 in front of the target of 245 runs. 9 players of the current team were part of that match.

Moin Ali became the villain of India

In both these matches, the Indian team was the biggest loser by off-spinner Moin Ali. He took 8 wickets in the first match and 9 wickets in the second match. This shows that spinners also help in the Aegis Bowl and in this case the role of Ravichandran Ashwin and Jadeja will be important. Indian batsmen also have to be cautious of spinners like Mitchell Santner.
