Pakistan’s chief selector Muhammad Wasim, while defending the squad selected for the 2022 T20 World Cup, cited his performance against India in the Asia Cup as well as last year’s T20 World Cup. While Pakistan registered their maiden World Cup win over India in last year’s competition, they suffered a loss to their arch-rivals in the Asia Cup before defeating them a week later in the final. Wasim speaking at the press conference After the announcement of Pakistan’s squad, Said said that the victory shows that the team can face bigger opponents and come out on top.
“The biggest positive for us is not just the results, the results have been good, but which teams we beat is in front of everyone,” he said.
“India is a billion dollar team. And if you look at how we played the first match against them in the Asia Cup and then within a week, how we beat them, one can’t think that we can’t beat big teams. We have done and shown,” he continued.
“We showed it last year as well and we did it again in the Asia Cup. So of course, we have full faith in this team,” he added.
The team has worked hard to bring happiness to its compatriots, he added.
“This team has spread a lot of happiness this year. If you look at our fan following, engagement, a lot has happened to this team and it is the contribution of these boys,” Wasim told reporters.
“He continues to bring us joy, and we hope that in the World Cup, he can give us even more joy.”
