Pakistan controls the proceedings against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup final at the Dubai International Stadium. After being put into bat, Sri Lanka’s top-order failed to deny the new ball as Pakistan’s fast bowlers rioted in the powerplay. Both Sri Lankan openers Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nisanka returned to the pavilion before the end of the fourth over. While Mendis was cast by Naseem Shah in the first over, Nissenka mistimed his pull and was caught near mid-off by Babar Azam off Haris Rauf.

Pakistan captain Babar had to go a long way from mid-off and took a good catch running back. After taking the catch, he jumped and almost fell while celebrating the wicket.

Rauf later got his second wicket in the final over of the powerplay, clean bowling Danushka Gunathilaka.

Sri Lanka scored 67 for five in their innings.

Both Pakistan and Sri Lanka faced off in the final game of the Super 4 stage, with the island nation on top.

Spinner Wanindu Hasaranga led the bowling charge of Sri Lanka to register a comfortable five-wicket win.

After restricting Pakistan to a total of 121 runs, Sri Lanka chased down the target with three overs to spare.

Since the emergence of the Asia Cup in 1984, Sri Lanka has won the title five times, while Pakistan has claimed it twice. It will be interesting to see which side will dominate the other to claim the final title.

India is the most successful team with seven Asia Cup victories.
