Rafael Nadal named 13th 13th French Open title, equals Federer’s record

Paris: Spain’s star tennis player Rafael Nadal defeated Serbia veteran Novak Djokovic 6–0, 6–2, 7–5 in a one-sided match, winning the title of Men’s Singles of the French Open tennis tournament for the 13th time. The Spaniard had previously won the French Open for four consecutive times between 2005-08 and then 5 consecutive times between 2010-14. Apart from this, he has also won the titles of US Open 4 times, Wimbledon 2 times and Australian Open 1 time. For the first time, Nadal had equaled Federer in terms of winning the Gradeslam. The two did not have a single Grand Slam title in 2003. Federer won his first Wimbledon title the same year, while Nadal won his first title in 2005 in Paris.

Nadal is the oldest player to win the French Open title since 1972. The difference between their first and latest Grand Slam titles is over 15 years which is the biggest difference in the men’s category. This was the 56th match between Nadal and Djokovic which is the most match between any 2 male players in professional age.

These two players were face to face for the 9th time in the Grand Slam final and thus they equaled the highest Grand Slam final between Nadal and Federer. Djokovic has won 14 out of the last 18 matches against Nadal and is 29-26 ahead in total matches.
